Summary0014553: Expansion Idea: "The Batcave," player has secret outpost
Description*Base has monthly credit upkeep based on upgrades/installed features
*Combined Science/Construction/Military outpost
*Can upgrade base to increase research and construction rates
*Can retain scientists and construction workers (increased upkeep cost)
*Special base-only research and construction (upgrade) options (example: genetically engineered combat troops, crazy stuff like that)
*Can upgrade/configure Security goon fleet
*Risk that the base can be discovered, attacked by player's enemies
*Player can buy new player ships from the races
*Player can design their own combat battle screen, layout defenses, turrets to protect base in some kind of tower defense-like missions

Have a nice pole to slide down and a special phone to talk to the mayor :)

That's a pretty awesome idea. I agree it's best suited for an expansion, but retaining scientists, hiding the base, pretty much everything posted makes sense. I think the idea of constructing the combat screen also sounds fun.

I left some comments to this effect on the Steam page.. Ill cut and paste them to this note.. it has some other ideas too..

A home Base/ship/lair/station/moon/deathstar
where I can do secret research
can make secret war plans
send out spies
upgrade ship types/hulls/shields
collect/build Hydral automated ships left unused in missions\
develop bioweaponry against specific races
develop clones of specific leaders
train myself to be the biggest baddest meanest MOFO in the valley to get my revenge
etc. etc.

research outside what is done on the planets.. if I take over a research station and have scientists.. I want to do research there.. same for manufacturing.. and make them upgradeable and give them weaponry as well as being able to station armadas/ fleets/ etc to help the goons

I want to be able to take over military stations too and upgrade them

I want to be able to use more than 1-3 scientists in reasearch, to minimize the time spent.. maybe being able to throw a whole workshop of them at a problem.. or some type of hive mind once you research psionics

having research spies too.. put science moles in place on planets so that you get a copy of the research when a planet completes it.. as well as being able to sabotage specific researrch

I want to be able to make armadas too and send them to and fro as an extension of my diplomatic might.

I think the race you start off with killing your planet should be much more powerful than they are.. overwhelming ground and space forces and all current tech.. they did just destroy and rob all the Hydrals afterall

 I came up with some other Ideas as well

also I noticed in my last game a couple of the races autoresearched everything in 1 month after it became available.. it happened in 3018, 3023, and 3028.. Ill open a seperate issue for this

If you have really low influence with a Race, they will try to destroy your secret base.

Definitely sounds interesting. At the least, it's a non-dispact, non-piss-everyone-off way of getting research done.

Don't foget the Butler. If it doesn't come standard with an Alfred, I don't want it... ;p (just kidding)

Serriously, this has soo much potential for helping out the game. Put it at the site of the old Hydral homeworld and you don't even need any graphics (just a "Secret Base" option in the Hydral Homeworld friendly actions or whatever; or better yet, a "Secret Base" category button below the hostile actions - where things like "Burlust Warlords" or "Thoraxian Queen" go would be beautful...)

Further Upgrade Ideas:

Embasy (by race) - building an embasy at your secret lair for representatives from the <inster target race here> race will help them see you in a better light. (gives a small monthly increase in influence each month). Possibly upgradable to increase influence amount.

Federation HQ - Once you established a federation you have the option of moving the federation headquarters to your (not so) secret base. The federation HQ increases the relations between each member race a little bit each month.

Federated Propaganda Expansion (Requires Federation HQ) - Reduces AFA (and other negative post federation effects) buildup.

War Room - From the War Room you can launch independant assualts on Pirate Convoys and Pirate Bases (and possibly other missions).

Planetary (remains) Survey Suite - The survey suite is equipped with the latest sensor technologies and specialists who sekk for signs of your old technology amongst the rubble of your homeworld. Occassionally creates Hydral Tech missions at the site of the old Hydral Homeworld.

I think we should be able to amass a small hidden fleet here, even if it's only for defensive purposes, in case anyone attacks it. Also because i'd like federation armadas outside of 'betrayal' :), because why not! They'd have a high cost associated with upkeep of course, so it'd only be a small armada.
