Summary0014457: Idea: New Space Outpost Type.
DescriptionI'd love to have a Space Station with living quarters so races with bad homeworld starts could have a solution to develop their population without terraforming. As a space station it would be destructible/capturable/sabotable, it could work like "tiny planets" with all the buildings races can build (those stations might have less building space and a population cap to keep it balance).

Just seems to complicate the game more, plus lol I have never seen a station last longer than 5 mins Real time.

You can see this as a complication, I see this as more choices for race development, for problem about stations not lasting long enough, I think races would heavily protect populated stations just like they defend their planets, plus having buildings on it also means defense buildings.

Perhaps rather than space stations, using the colonized moons -- it could keep track of the population on each moon. This might address dada's points about being easily destructible. However, it might make planet combat a bit more complicated. However I think that buildings on the moon / space station is hard with the GUI as it is now. I think it would need a heavier reliance on visuals rather than text, but I'm not entirely sure.

edited for clarity

I didn't think about that but it would be good to have population on colonized moon, I find moons difficult to see on the solar map actually (this is another point for another ticket).
Using the same overlays would become too heavy on the solar map, but the population and the buildings could be counted in the corresponding planet statistics and overlay. This would mean that colonizing the moon and making it habitable would increase the planet equilibrium and the maximum number per type of building available, or it would be counted in a separate section in the planet details.

EDIT: Habitable moons seem better to me now, regarding combat they should not be attackable, it would be more like an extension of the planet and would not change solar map combat or any other aspect of the game.
